When it comes to deciding which type of fencing for your business, there are various items to consider including your budget, the amount of upkeep required, the objectives behind the project (for example: whether privacy, security or aesthetics), and how long the fence will remain in place.
Types of Commercial Fencing
Vinyl.
As they say in the business, “vinyl is final”, due to the longevity of it’s lifespan and minimal upkeep, which makes this a great option for businesses. Vinyl fencing adds the greatest level of privacy with seamless panels. It requires no painting or staining as it’s UV-protected. And vinyl requires minimal upkeep except for periodic cleaning. Vinyl fencing offers a great deal of privacy with 6-8′ feet tall one-piece panels eliminating spacing between boards of wood fencing. It can also be used in commercial settings, hiding dumpsters and mechanical equipment. Vinyl offers a great variety of styles, colors and heights.
Chain Link.
Chain link fences install quickly and offer cost savings over vinyl. While you can install slats for privacy, slats can also provide reduction in noise, wind and dust. It can be used indoors as well for an added layer of security for warehouses or to protect employees from injury with ensuring employees steer clear of manufacturing or industrial machinery, thus preventing accidents. The steel construction of chain link is durable, resists corrosion and rust. Chain link also offers a variety of add-ons and upgrades to increase security:
- Barbed wire or barbed tape
- Increased height of 8’ or higher
- Elimination of the top rail to make it more difficult to climb
- Addition of bottom rail to prevent someone crawling under
- Double row of security fending for an additional line of security
- Peen all bolts to prevent the removal of the bolt nut
- Also adding lighting, surveillance and signage can also increase security
Chain link fences are fairly durable and able to withstand the elements, ensure your chain links is properly coated to prevent rust. Besides periodic washing, checking for loose nuts or bolts, and applying oil to the hinges, maintenance is minimal.
Steel or Aluminum Fencing.
Made of heavy-duty metal, this fence is very durable and sturdy. Aluminum fencing offers great barrier protection but can also be ornamental and increase the aesthetics of your commercial property, with a variety of colors and styles to choose from. Due to the acrylic finish, this fence requires little maintenance and colors are unlikely to fade. There is a large variety of aluminum panel styles including Floridian, Sierra, Carolina, Appalachian, Manhattan, Castle, Commercial, Cathedral, and Elegant Arch. Call us for more information and photos of the various styles.
Farm Style Wood Fencing or Horse fencing.
The materials typically used in horse or agricultural fencing is made with wood boards and posts, but in some cases, business can use vinyl fencing. For additional security, we can also add wire mesh fencing and electric fencing to prevent escape. A mild shock of the electric pasture fencing provides an effective deterrent to keep horses from chewing on, rubbing against or pushing through the fence without causing harm to any of the animals. Farm fences are an appealing choice because the wood blends in well with the natural settings while keeping the farm animals and horses safe and on your property. Upkeep and maintenance include replacing boards, staining annually to prevent warping or weather damage and regular cleaning or pressure washing. Wood Fencing can lost anywhere from 5-20 years, depending on maintenance.
Wood Privacy Fencing.
Wood fencing is one of the most affordable options, but also versatile in design with several types of layouts including:
- spindle picket fencing,
- solid board,
- tongue and groove,
- shadowbox,
- spaced-picket,
- lattice and spindle topped,
- stockade,
- vertical board on board,
- cedar round rail,
- locust split rail,
- western red split rail,
- ranch rail,
- wood guard rail, and
- vertical board styles
Geddes Fence uses Western Red Cedar and Pressure Treated Pine as our primary wood types for commercial fencing. Wood fencing’s lifespan can be from anywhere to 5-20 years depending on upkeep and need annual staining to prevent weather damage and warping. Wood fences are more environmentally friendly with economical preservatives and stabilizer that minimize swelling against rot, mold and termite damage. They are also easily disposable, when needed. As with the equine fencing, commercial wood fencing blends well with the natural setting, and can be stained or painting to blend with the surroundings.
Gate and Gate Operators.
Gate and Gate operators offer security to the commercial or residential property, keeping intruders out and allowing approved individuals inside. While offering security and convenience, they can add to the aesthetic value to the entrance of your property. Popular styles of security gates include but are not limited to:
- Slide gates
- Swing gates
- Vertical lift gates
- Pivot lift gates
- Bi-folding gates
- Pedestrian security gates
Gate operators offer convenience for your staff and residents whether late at night, early in the morning or when weather conditions are harsh, your staff and/or residents can gain entry without getting out of their car. They can trigger the gate by either phone, keypad entry, mobile app or more options. Due to the functionality and various moving parts, the gate and gate operator needs continued maintenance and annual inspections to ensure that all is in working order.
